When I program a new layout to Exquis through the Exquis app, all the keys are an octave lower when played.
Using the latest V.2.1.0 version
Step-by-step example of problem:
Open Exquis app with Exquis connected
In app, navigate to Layouts > Factory > Isomorphic > Exquis
Hexagon icon > Save Layout As > Exquis2
At this point, all buttons at bottom are lit except for 3.
In app, Hexagon icon > Switch to Free Layout
At this point the note keys are not lit,
and all buttons at bottom are lit except for 3 and 7.
Changed the color of the upper right note G 67 to red to uniquely identify this layout.
Hexagon icon > Save Layout As > Exquis2
In app, right click in left panel to make Exquis2 the default.
Upper left file icon > Standalone settings > Layouts
Delete any existing layouts
Add Exquis2
Single red note is now lit in upper right hand corner of Exquis
All buttons at bottom are lit except for 3 and 7
Exit Exquis app.
Buttons 1,2 6 are lit.
Run ShowMIDI, and hit red note in upper right.
It displays G3 (midi 55), which is an octave below what was programmed G4 (midi 67).
Button 7 is not lit, so unable to change octaves.
Please help! Thank you!
Hello,
I am on vacation and do not have my Exquis until next weekend unfortunately, so I can’t try it. But if I understand well, we can sum up the problem to:
- load Exquis layout, then edit it to free layout, and set a color on a key, then save layout as new
- Upload this layout on Eqxuis from the standalone editor, then when closing the app, realize that the colored key is an octave below ? If you play the key just before, is it a semitone below or also an octave below ?
Other steps seem not relevant to reproduce the bug.
And octave buttons are not lit with a Free layout, that is normal.
Hi Serguei,
Thank you for helping me out. I’m very new to your product, and I’m trying my best to figure this stuff out on my own, but I’m getting nowhere. Here’s a detailed set of steps that I’m doing, probably more detailed than needed, but I don’t know what is normal, so I don’t want to overlook something. Thanks again!
Loaded up default factory Exquis layout from Exquis app
Layout > Factory > Isomorphic > Exquis
It displays the default purple and white note buttons
Buttons 1,2,6, and 7 are lit
Save to standalone mode and exit app
Reboot Exquis
Run ShowMIDI, and hit upper right note button
It displays G3
→ So far, so good?
Now, copy factory/Exquis layout to user/Exquis2 without doing anything else
In Exquis app,
Layout > Factory > Isomorphic > Exquis
Hexagon button > Save Layout As > Exquis2
Layout > User > Exquis2
Set as Default
Upper left menu icon > Standalone settings > Layouts
Delete Exquis from Layout listing
Add Exquis2 from User group
Exit Standalone Editor; Exit Exquis app
Reboot Exquis
Run ShowMIDI, and hit upper right note button
It displays G3
→ So far, so good?
Now, convert Exquis2 layout to free layout and load as Exquis3 layout
In Exquis app without doing anything else,
Layout > User > Exquis2
Hexagon button > Switch to Free Layout
Upper right note button is displayed as G67 in app
→ Note this G4 and not G3. Should I have expected G3?
Now save layout as Exquis3
Set as default
Upper left menu icon > Standalone settings > Layouts
Delete Exquis2 from Layout listing
Add Exquis3 from User group
Exit Standalone Editor; Exit Exquis app
Reboot Exquis
Run ShowMIDI, and hit upper right note button
It displays G3
→ But it should display G4 shouldn’t it, because that was in the layout editor in app?
→ This is the source of my problem.
With this last set of changes, all the note buttons play like the picture on page 3 of the user guide, except down 2 octaves.
I’m sorry I still really don’t understand the issue and don’t manage to reproduce it. If a G67 is set, you will always get a G67 when playing, do you get something else (a G55 or a G79?) ? If so, how?
Please make a video if you can.
What I seem to understand and what I can answer is that when you load an isomorphic layout, then switch to free layout, it applies the notes there were when isomorphic. Example: load Exquis isomorphic layout (top right note is G67), then get an octave lower with the octave buttons, then switch to free : the top right note will be a G55).
Hi Serguei,
I am probably doing something stupid, but just can’t figure it out. In the mean time, I have a work around where I transpose the midi notes inside of Ableton.
I really don’t want to waste any more of your time. I’ll figure it out eventually. Thanks again for your support.
