Dedicated midi cc mode

Hello,

I’m thinking of picking up an Exquis and hoping to replace my launchpad with it. One thing I’m wondering about is a dedicated midi cc mode where all the pads send a single midi cc, ideally configurable. With a custom midi mode people can use the pads to Control different aspects of their live set or studio gear.
I did go through the manual and it looks like nothing like this is available, is anything like this planned for the future?

What do you mean exactly by sending a MIDI CC on each pad: triggering the key, or with pressure/bending ?

Today you can set an isomorphic custom note layout (including a chromatic layout on the 61 keys). The very next version of the app and keyboard (definitely by the end of the year) will allow to edit the value and color individually for each key.

I mean a mode where each pad sends one midi cc on/off message (not a note message), and no glide or slide messages.
Bonus points if you can make each pad a custom colour and and custom channel and cc number.

Having a dedicated custom mode for this is really beneficial because it would allow people to program the exquis like a custom controller to control your software and hardware, and then easily flip back to the standard layout to use it as an instrument.

Interesting idea, actually it is in our box of ideas, we might develop this sooner or later.

je fais du réseau mais je suis un piètre développeur lol

Le problème que je vois avec le Developer Mode, c’est que ça ne permet pas de créer un layout permanent que je puisse utiliser en mode “standalone”.

C’est vraiment dommage que l’on puisse pas utiliser exquis comme un contrôleur MIDI classique (via un layout par exemple).

C’est en haut de la boite a idée ou plutot au fond? :slight_smile:

On termine ce qu’on doit terminer sur l’application Exquis (sortie dans les prochains/es jours/semaines), et on en discute plus sérieusement avec l’équipe.
Toute indication plus poussée sur comment tu imaginerais t’en servir (une combinaison de touches qui permet de switcher entre mode « normal » et « mode MIDI » ? Est-ce que c’est comme un layout que tu pourrais personnaliser depuis l’application ? Est-ce que tu en aurais besoin de plusieurs ? etc.) serait un vrai plus pour nous aider à la réflexion.

Any further indication on how you imagine using it (a key combination to switch between “normal” mode and “MIDI mode”? Is it like a layout you could customize from the app? Would you need several of them? etc.) would be a real plus to help our thinking.

De mon côté, je vois surtout ce mode comme quelque chose de rapide à activer/désactiver,

Une combinaison de touches pour switcher entre layer “instrument” (jeu normal) et un (ou plusieurs) layers de « contrôle ». L’idée serait de pouvoir basculer très rapidement entre ces layers, voire de maintenir une touche pour accéder temporairement à un layer de contrôle, puis revenir automatiquement au jeu instrumental. Un mode split keyboard peut être une option interressante, a voir si c’est une mode idée à implémenter.

Concrètement, j’imagine par exemple pouvoir faire sur un layer de contrôle :

  • Contrôler des actions comme lancer/arrêter des boucles, activer des boutons (mute, solo, effets…),
  • Faire varier en continu des paramètres (axes X/Y d’un pad et autres).
  • Personaliser chaque touche, en incluant les potards, (la couleur, la sensibilité, MPE ON/OFF, etc)
  • Assigner librement par touche note, CC ou autres messages MIDI,
  • La conf se fait dans l’app Exquis et le layer peut ensuite être utilisé en standalone sur n’importe quel DAW.
  • Je pense que c’est un bon outil pour controller un sequencer.

Bref c’est l’idée de pouvoir personaliser un layout/preset selon les usages (live, studio, un par logiciel ou par projet, etc). Pour information, j’utilise Loppy Pro et c’est une vrai dinguerie lol. La personnalisation me semble clé pour s’adapter à des workflows créatifs variés.

Ce sont évidemment des pistes à chaud et ça mériterais d’ouvrir un topic dédié pour en discuter mais j’espère que ça pourra nourrir la réflexion côté équipe. Merci de m’offrir cette opportunité de feedback et bonne fêtes de fin d’année :wink:
